WHAT IS GOLD-FILLED?

Gold-filled is a term used to describe a type of jewelry pieces, generally made in the United States, consisting of a thick layer of 14k gold covering a metal, usually brass or copper.

The gold-filled jewelry is made by wrapping and bonding a gold sheet around the base metal with heat and pressure. The layer of gold in our gold-filled pieces is significantly thicker than in regular gold plating. The weight of gold is 1/20 of the total weight of the product, that is about 50-100 more times of gold.

At DENÓMADE, we use gold-filled for the metal parts of most of our jewelry pieces. We work with this metal type because of its durability, as it does not peel or tarnish. For this reason, we use it in those components with more wear and tear, such as closures.

Gold-filled is a quality material with almost the same properties and look as solid gold, which maintains its golden layer for years without tarnishing or fading. If you wish to clean the gold-filled parts of your jewelry pieces, you may use mild soap and a damp cloth, taking care of the surrounding materials, like leather, gold plated metal, or some gemstones. Please, follow the specific care instructions for each piece available on our website.
