WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOLD-FILLED AND GOLD PLATED?
Both DENÓMADE gold-filled and 24k gold plated jewelry have high-quality standards, but the following differences must be taken into account:
-Manufacturing method: While gold-filled making is a mechanical process in which heat and pressure are applied to wrap and bold a golden sheet to a brass or copper core, gold plating making consists of an electrical or chemical process to deposit a layer of gold over the base metal.
-Thickness: The weight of gold in gold-filled pieces is about 50 to 100 times more than in a gold plated product, although our gold plated jewelry has a thick 24k gold layer of 2 or 3 microns, depending on the piece. (The standard thickness of gold plated jewelry is 0.1 - 0.5 microns).
-Durability: Due to the thicker layer of gold, gold-filled jewelry will keep in excellent conditions for much more time than gold plated pieces. Following the specific care instructions, gold-filled jewelry may maintain its original appearance for lots of years. The durability of the gold plated jewelry is directly related to the use made of it. If the basic specific care instructions for these types of pieces are followed, you may preserve their original look for several years. However, some other factors, such as the pH of your skin, may affect its duration.
-Appearance: Gold-filled pieces have the same properties and the same appearance as solid gold. Gold plated jewelry appears brighter than gold-filled, but it will be less resistant to friction.
-Care: Particular care must be taken with gold plated jewelry to maintain its original look as much as possible. You should avoid direct contact with parfums, creams, salt or chlorinated water, and household cleaners. Unlike the gold plated, the thickness of gold present on the surface of the gold-filled pieces makes it possible to clean it without fear of making disappear the gold layer. However, direct contact with water and chemicals should be avoided. In both cases, we recommend storing your jewelry in its original case when you’re not wearing them, in a cool, dry place, and clean it with a soft cloth when necessary.
